About Me

Harpreet M. Dayal

My mother raised me to be kind, to always come from a place of love no matter where I was in life. “There is nothing wrong in the act of giving, no matter what the universe gives you.”

In the late 70s my father arrived in Forest Gate, East London all the way from Punjab, India; my mother followed in the 80s. I grew up in an immigrant household where my parents worked tirelessly to build a foundation for my siblings and I in a new country. They instilled their values of hard work in all of us.

My mother taught me how to sew, I sang my way through childhood to adulthood and filled notebooks with short stories and adventures. Art and creativity excited me from a young age but as I grew older, pursuing a traditional career took precedence over my creative interests. After University, I landed a job in Finance and lost my creative spark.

It was not until I met my now husband, Deepak, who was on the other side of the world, that I resumed writing. Writing became a way to examine my fear of change as I stepped into the next phase of my life. It helped me understand my vulnerability and allowed my soul to grow.

When I moved to Canada and shared poetry on stage for the first time, it opened a creative tap that hasn’t stopped flowing. During this phase, I founded the Love Notes Project, I published my children’s book 'Wilbert the Worm,' a poetry book ‘Svadhyaya: A Journey of Self-Learning,’ and was also published in the poetry anthology ‘We All Breathe the Same Air,’ by Augies Bookshelf Publishing Company.

I am grateful for the connection I make with people who are touched by my work. I believe in the power of art to heal and bring people together. These experiences have led me to wonder how I can use my work to help others to tap into their creativity, to delve into their inner realms and thrive as the world moves quickly around them.
